History
GCU was founded in 1949 by the Southern Baptist Church. Then known as Grand Canyon College, its first campus was located in an abandoned armory building in Prescott, Arizona. Two years later, the school relocated to Phoenix, where it has developed a strong reputation as a premier Christian institution. Chapel
Students at GCU enjoy a rich spiritual life with optional twice-weekly Chapel services, student-led Bible studies and various small-group ministries. Life Leaders are prominent on campus, serving as peer counselors, while Servant Scholars – students who demonstrate exceptional spiritual leadership in the community – play an important role in GCU's campus life.
