Who am I and how did God lead me to GCU?
I was born in Boise, Idaho, but have lived in Arizona most of my life. I currently live in Gilbert with my wife, Tara, and our Poodle-mix rescue dog named Poppy.
I’ve been a youth and worship pastor for over 10 years and just recently (August 2014) joined the Spiritual Life Department at GCU, overseeing the Chapel and Gathering Worship Teams. I absolutely love my job here because I get to pour into and mentor students who have a passion to glorify and praise the name of Jesus. My job is to help them grow and learn what it means to lead worship on and off the stage. While doing this, I continue to serve as a worship pastor for a small church in Gilbert as well.
Aside from ministry, I love watching sports – mostly football, baseball and IndyCar racing. If you visit my office, you’ll realize quickly that I’m a huge Buffalo Bills and Oakland A’s fan. I know…it’s a long story. However, I’m still an avid supporter of the Cardinals and D-Backs.
What do I enjoy most about my role at GCU?
I enjoy my time with students hearing their heart and passion for Jesus, and watching them mature and develop as young leaders. It is amazing to see God working so tangibly in their lives and to witness the impact it has for His kingdom. With so many distractions and diversions for college students these days, it is comforting to know that there are gifted, passionate students who truly want to make a difference in this world.
How has the Gospel shaped my life?
The Gospel for me has shaped the ultimate reality of what life is truly all about. It’s not only the good news of God’s loving pursuit of us through His amazing grace, but it’s the confirmation of God’s incredible faithfulness towards His creation. When I realize that I am indeed created in God’s image, to bear that image and reflect his glory, my whole perspective of life drastically changes. Looking back and reflecting on my own journey through life, no matter what obstacles I’ve faced, I am constantly reminded of God’s incredible faithfulness.
