My Experience as a GCU Marketing Major
As I prepare to graduate from Grand Canyon University, I would like to take a moment to reflect on my unforgettable experiences as a marketing major in the Colangelo College of Business.
When I began my journey at GCU, I was a transfer student from a local community college. I started my first day of school with little knowledge about the campus; however, there were several supportive students, staff and faculty members who were willing to help me with anything I needed.
Ultimately, due to the love and support of GCU’s community, I cherished every aspect of GCU’s classroom environments, advanced curriculum and career preparations.
Classroom Experience
I will never forget my first day at GCU. The first classroom I stepped foot in was Dr. McClean’s Marketing Research and Reporting class. There were about 30 students in the classroom, and it seemed as if everyone knew each other, and I was entering into a very tight-knit community. By the end of the semester, these students were not just my classmates – they were my friends.
I began to notice that this became a trend for every marketing class I attended at Grand Canyon University. Almost every upper division class required semester-long group projects, in-depth class discussions, interactive lectures and after-school study sessions. These experiences enhanced not only my education, but my teambuilding skills as well.
In addition to my campus classes, I took quite a few online classes. I found that my positive experience stayed very much intact. The full-time online faculty members were always willing to lend a hand if I ever came across any confusion. However, I hardly ever had any problems or technical difficulties thanks to LoudCloud, GCU’s easy-to-use online learning system!
Advanced Curriculum
Coming from a community college, I really appreciated Grand Canyon University’s advanced and cutting-edge curriculum. I became immersed in designing research projects, collecting market research, developing marketing plans and reporting my findings in both written and oral presentations, either in groups or individually. Not to mention, I certainly valued the fact that GCU encouraged us to conduct ethical research and practices through the lens of their Christian worldview.
I truly feel like I received a well-rounded education. I studied topics like economics, accounting, finance, advertising, operation management, marketing management and so much more! In addition, my inspirational professors always kept me intrigued, engaged and eager to learn more about each topic, every single day.
Career Preparation
GCU’s community and advanced curriculum have certainly helped prepare me for my future career in marketing. Due to the help and guidance I have received from the Colangelo College of Business, I am now qualified to apply for multiple entry-level management positions in corporate marketing or brand marketing. However, I am also considering advancing my education and pursing one of GCU’s master’s degrees in business. If I decide to do so, I would choose between GCU’s MBA, MSL or MBA with an Emphasis in Marketing.
I feel as though my possibilities are endless, and I am so excited for what my future will hold! Whatever path I pursue, I will always have GCU to thank for helping me grow. I know that I have matured immensely in my education and as a person as well. I am more than happy to say that GCU has helped me find my purpose!
