The Top 5 Reasons to Choose GCU
Why should you join the Herd? While there are countless reasons to apply to GCU, we’ve compiled a list of the top 5 to help you learn about some of the many amenities that our university has to offer:
Nine Distinct Colleges
At GCU, we offer nine distinct colleges, including our College of Science Engineering and Technology, College of Education, College of Nursing and Health Care Professions and College of Business. Within these colleges, we offer over a wide variety of degree programs and concentrations including nursing, education, forensic science and digital design. Whatever your interests may be, we can help you find your purpose.
Rapidly Expanding Campus
Did you know that over 80% of our campus is less than five years old? GCU’s campus features new classroom buildings, a newly renovated Student Union, dining options like Chick-fil-A and Subway and suite-style residence halls. In addition, our GCU Arena opened in fall 2011; it is home to our men’s and women’s basketball teams and hosts concerts and other events throughout the year.
Leap to NCAA Division I Athletics
After many successful years in Division II, GCU’s athletic teams are competing in the Western Athletic Conference as part of Division I, considered the highest level of intercollegiate athletics. Keep a close eye this year on our men’s basketball team, led by Head Coach “Thunder Dan” Majerle. Before the leap to Division I, GCU was honored to win back-to-back Learfield Sports Directors’ Cups for our overall performance in Division II athletics.
Sunny Phoenix, Arizona
GCU is located in the heart of one of the biggest cities in the country: Phoenix. Our location keeps us deeply rooted in our Arizona traditions and we are the first university in Phoenix to compete in Division I athletics. We enjoy over 300 days of sunshine each year—perfect for enjoying our two campus recreational pools!
Affordable Christian Education
We believe a private Christian education should also be an affordable one. That’s why we offer generous scholarships to qualified students. We also believe our values-based educational opportunities help set us apart and make our campus a welcoming community. Our strong spiritual life includes weekly Chapel services, theGathering (a contemporary evening chapel), community ministries and international mission trips.
