Weekly Devotional: We Are All Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. – Psalm 139:16
When God was creating every human on this earth, he made each of us individually with a purpose. Nobody is made by accident and nobody is a mistake. He loves each and every one of us and has given us all a purpose in life, but it is up to us to learn and find that purpose.
God Knew You Were Special Before He Made You
God had a plan for your life before you were even created. He knew that you would have a purpose and he made you special. He knew that you would do something for the world and make a difference in the lives of others. Before he created you, he knew who he wanted you to be and what you had to offer the world.
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5
He Has Given You a Purpose
Everyone has a purpose. We all have a reason for being on this earth. We may not know what that purpose is right now. It may take a while to figure that out, but we all have a purpose. A lot of times, we get frustrated when we are trying to find our purpose, especially in college.
When in college, we are entering adulthood and being on our own for the first time. We feel pressure to find our purpose in life; we feel like we need to know what we want to do with our lives and want to do as a career after college. God has given us that purpose; we just need to find it.
“Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:7
He Knew the World Needed You
When God created you, he knew that the world needed you. He knew that you would bring joy to others and be able to do good for the world. You may not know what that could be, but trust him; he knows what he is doing. He began a good work in you and he will bring it to completion. He will never leave you stranded.
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
We Were Made in His Image
God is perfect. We were made in his image. We are imperfect sinners, but many of us have the desire to do good. The Lord made us with good intentions and wants us to do good things in the world. He makes us with the purpose of being good.
“Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” – Genesis 1:26
Never Doubt Your Worth
When trying to find your purpose, it is normal to feel discouraged and get a little down on yourself because you are struggling. We feel like we are expected to know what we are doing with our life and our future when we start college at the age of eighteen. We are still so young and do not have to have it all figured out yet. We will figure it out eventually, because God knows our purpose and he will help us find it.
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13
