Weekly Devotional: Having Patience in His Plan
“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.” – Ephesians 4:2
As humans, we like to plan. Whether they are big or small, we plan what we are going to eat for dinner and we plan what we want to do as a career or where we want to move after college. We plan for both the little things and big things. But sometimes life doesn’t quite go as planned. God has a different plan and throws us off course sometimes. This is when we need to have patience.
New Seasons of Life
We make plans for new seasons of life, such as where to go to college, what city to move to or what job to take. We plan for each season as it comes and as they are approaching, but sometimes our plans do not work out. We do not get into the college we planned on going to or get the job we’ve always dreamed of. That is because God has a greater plan. He has something better in mind for us. This can be frustrating sometimes because we do not know what that plan is or how it could possibly be better. We just have to trust him.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” – Psalm 27:14
Not Knowing What Is Next
We fear the unknown. We are not able to predict the future, so we do not know what is next in our lives. We may not know what our future job will be, where our future home will be or who we will spend our future with. There are so many things in our life that are unknown and that we have no control over. We try to figure out what comes next in our lives, when the only person that knows is God.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
We Want Control
We want to be in control. We want to have a say in every situation we are put in. We want our lives to go exactly how we imagine it. We do not want anything to throw us off the path that we have planned for ourselves. We want things our way, but God has his own plan, and whatever that is, will come to fruition. His plan is always the best plan and we have to trust him with that.
“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.” – Proverbs 25:28
All You Can Do Is Trust
The only thing we can do to make sure we have a great future and a good life, is to trust God. Trust in his plan for you. Say yes to what he gives you and situations that he puts you in. If he wants to push you out of your comfort zone, then do it. He knows what is best for you, so let go of your own plan and trust Him.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.” – Proverbs 3:5
