Weekly Devotional: The Importance of Remembering John 13:7
“Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.” – John 13:7
The Bible is like our guide. It is God’s Word that we should live by to live a fruitful life. We are to spread his love and live by His Word. However, there are times when we forget His truth and disregard what He says.

We Worry Too Much
As human beings, we get too caught up in our lives and focus on ourselves that we forget that God already has things taken care of. We worry about every little thing in our life, whether it is what we are going to eat for dinner, or where we are going to live next year, or even what other people think of us. We spend too much time worrying over things that are out of our control.
“say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, He will come with vengeance; with divine retribution, He will come to save you.” – Isaiah 35:4
We Try to Control Things
We want our lives to turn out a certain way. We all have our own plans. We want to have certain careers, to live certain places and marry specific people and live a lifestyle that we have planned for ourselves and we try to control certain situations to make our life plans become a reality. Our plans may not line up with what God has planned. He may want something different for your life and His plan is always so much better than we could ever imagine for ourselves.
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” – Romans 8:28
Our Lives Are in God’s Hands
Ultimately, God is in control. He has a plan and he will see it through. He has control over every situation in our lives. He brings the right people into our lives at the exact moment that we need them and he also takes people out of our lives when they are no longer needed. He brings us opportunities when we are in need of them at the right time. Everything happens in his timing.
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:6-7
We Will Not Always Understand
We will not always know what God is doing in our lives. We might get upset with him from time to time, either when he takes people out of our lives or brings us situations that we do not understand, but he does everything with a purpose. He puts us through hard times to teach us a lesson and bring us new experiences to prepare us for the future.
“The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, He is patient with you, wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9
Have Trust and Faith
The only thing that we can control in our lives is our faith and our trust in the Lord. If we trust Him and His plan for our lives, He will bring us everything we have ever dreamed of and more. It just takes patience, trust, and faith. Worship Him in the waiting and thank Him for the blessings that are coming.
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.” – Psalm 37:4-6
