Weekly Devotional: United in Fellowship

Large group of people embracing in fellowship

In today’s fast-paced world, it can sometimes seem harder to build in-person connections. Despite being surrounded by people, it can be easy to feel isolated and alone. The Bible shares an important message emphasizing the importance of community and fellowship. That we are to be in communion with one another. But it is important to note that fellowship is more than simply spending time with people, it’s about forming deeper connections that reflect the love of Christ. So, why is fellowship important and what can we do to find and be part of it?

The Significance of Fellowship

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. – Ecclesiastes 4:9-10, NIV

Fellowship allows us to build a strong and faithful community of believers. The significance of fellowship is that it helps us connect with others. Man was not made to be alone, that is why God created woman. In Genesis, God gave Adam a companion, Eve. Through this, God made us as creatures meant to be together and not apart. We each need connection and support from one another. By being part of a good community, we can strengthen our faith and achieve more than we ever could alone.

As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. – Proverbs 27:17, NIV

How We Can Take Part

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:24-25, NIV

There are many ways for us to find fellowship with others. For one, we can join a church or attend chapel. Being surrounded by a community that aims to help and support one another is a blessing to be part of. For more ways to find fellowship, GCU holds events like the sanctuary and life groups. These events are held on campus and allow students to find fellowship amongst their peers and learn more about God’s Word and character.
