We can find truth in God and in the Bible. Truth can bring us peace, knowledge and wisdom. This world can sometimes feel full of lies, half-truths, deception or opinions. It can be easy to get lost or confused in trying to find the truth. With faith, we can rest and find truth in God. Let’s explore where we can find truth and how to follow it by speaking of it.

In This Article:

What is Truth?

Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'
John 14:6NIV

Truth is unwavering, pure and good, like God’s character. To find truth, we can look to the Bible, the Word of God, for the answer. Scripture shows us God's true nature and that He is truth. The Word of God lays the foundation for truth. It helps guide us in learning more about God and Jesus, the truth that they bring and the history it reveals to us.

Truth is not what may feel right in a moment or what everyone believes based on popularity. Truth is objective. It is not subject to one person or their personal thoughts, feelings or opinions.

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
John 8:32NIV

Truth leads to freedom as it reveals reality for what it is, untainted by deception or lies. It is better to live in the truth than to live in a lie. Facing reality for what it is can help us understand our need for God.

Speaking With Truth and Light

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21NIV

Speak of truth, not of lies or deception: In Proverbs 18:21, the bible tells us that the tongue holds a lot of power. We can either speak of truth and life, or of death through lies and sins. It is important that we hold steadfast to truth as we will be fruitful in our spirit. By speaking with truth and light, we can strengthen our relationship with God and even with those around us.

We can aim to live like Jesus, speaking and spreading love and truth. He would travel and spread the great Word of God, speaking with truth and light.

It may be easy to believe in lies rather than hold up what is true and follow it. It can be easier to sin than to do what is right and holy. God knows we aren’t perfect and are bound to sin. Despite this, we can repent of our sins and focus on God. He forgives us of our sins and welcomes us back into His arms each and every time. His abundant and unconditional love is what can help us when we face hard truths.

God is here to help guide our paths. We can take refuge in Him and be present in the truth He brings.
