Degree Spotlight: GCU’s Master of Divinity Program
Grand Canyon University’s College of Theology already strives for quality education and ministry preparation through both its traditional campus and online learning options. Now, in GCU’s Master of Divinity (MDiv) program, graduate students can enjoy the best of both worlds in theological education.
Not only is the MDiv curriculum comprehensive in scope, enabling students seeking advanced preparation for ministry leadership or further work in the academy to accomplish their specific vocational goals, but its instruction is also delivered through a hybrid format. Largely, you reap the benefits of online learning from the convenience of your home and current ministry context. This is possible because all of the courses in GCU’s MDiv program, with the exception of three residency classes, are completed online.
The inclusion of three residency courses in the design of the MDiv degree postures you to enjoy unique and significant additional benefits. As you make progress through the program, you enroll in three residency courses at various points: INT-525 Christian Worldview and Mission, MIN-601 Christ-Centered Preaching and HTH-611 Pastoral Theology.
For one week during each of these classes, you will journey to Phoenix for intensive instruction. This week of residency is filled with in-class learning and a host of plenary sessions to help you remain focused on being Gospel-centered, church-focused and missions-oriented in your life and ministry.
You also have the opportunity to collaborate with others for in-depth interaction, practical application and the forging of lifelong friendships and ministry partnerships as you continue to flourish through personal engagement with others in GCU’s thriving educational community.
While the coursework is rigorous, students who have participated in both MDiv online classes and residency weeks have communicated that they have been enriched, equipped and encouraged to remain faithful in pursuing God’s call for their lives.
So, if you are looking to take your theological studies and preparation for ministry service to the next level, GCU’s MDiv program may be just the right fit for you. It will afford you the opportunity to enjoy the best of both worlds in theological education, an effective combination of regular opportunities for in-class learning through residency classes along with the convenience of quality online instruction for the majority of your MDiv studies.
