Tell us about yourself! What are your current interests and hobbies?
I was born in Boise, Idaho, but have lived in Arizona most of my life. I currently live in Gilbert with my wife, Tara and our Poodle-mix rescue dog named Poppy. Aside from ministry, I love watching sports – mostly football, pro cycling and IndyCar racing. I’m a long-time Buffalo Bills fan…I know…long story. I love to read, play guitar, travel the world and cycle.
What is it like working with the Worship Summit course at GCU?
Working with the Worship Summit course has been one of my favorite opportunities at GCU. Although it is a zero credit course, students come every Monday night eager to learn what it means to use their gifts and passion for worship in ministry. My favorite part is getting to know the students individually and having great class discussions that are both theological and practical.
Tell us about your call to work with students on the Worship Arts team.
Worship ministry has always been an important aspect of my life and calling. Now that I have had some years of experience in full-time ministry, it has been an absolute joy to be able to come alongside the next generation of worship leaders and pour into them. The students in the Worship Arts program are gifted, passionate and eager to give their all to serving God with their lives. I feel incredibly honored to play a small part in that journey!
What do you think is important about the idea of “A Daring Devotion?”
The idea of “A Daring Devotion” is fitting for the life that God has called us to. No matter what your journey entails it will certainly require risk, courage and a commitment to trust God with everything. It is easy to lose sight of the goal, whether from our own personal success or our biggest failures. Life can prove to be unpredictable and difficult at times. In the midst of the highs and lows that we face, it is so important that we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Looking back and reflecting on my own journey through life, no matter what obstacles I’ve faced, I am constantly reminded of God’s incredible faithfulness. This is what keeps me pursuing “A Daring Devotion”.
What advice would you give to those that desire to pursue a career in Worship Ministry?
My advice to anyone desiring to pursue a career in Worship Ministry is to learn what it means to be a humble servant of Christ. Because worship ministry involves a public platform it is so easy to get caught up in the performance aspect of it. However, Jesus modeled for us that true ministry happens through sacrificial love and serving in humility.
