    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry program will demonstrate knowledge of the Bible, an ability to interpret Scripture according to sound hermeneutical principles and recognition of the significance of Scripture in Christian Ministry.

  • Theological and Historical Foundations -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry program will demonstrate theological reflection skills in identifying common themes in the Bible and systematic theology and their historical development, analyzing current Christian traditions and contemporary theological movements, and applying biblical, theological, and historical themes to ministry.
    • Explain the theological concept of God as creator and redeemer.
    • Explain the theological concept of Christ’s atonement and resurrection.
    • Contrast major models of the church in light of biblically faithful ecclesiology.
    • Identify the implications of major challenges facing the contemporary church.
    • Identify significant ethical principles in Scripture and their role in forming Christian values.
    • Describe the relationship between Christian doctrine and church ministry within a particular tradition.
  • Spiritual and Professional Formation -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry program will demonstrate personal spiritual and professional development skills related to teaching, preaching, mentoring, and leading in ministry.
    • Clearly communicate the teaching of scripture.
    • Explain the biblical bases and theological rationale for spiritual formation while identifying theories for personal application.
    • Develop a mentoring program and a plan for implementation.
    • Apply ethical principles to ministry situations.
    • Develop a personal strategy for soul care in order to flourish spiritually while ministering to the spiritual needs of others.
  • Christian Ministry -
    Graduates of Grand Canyon University’s Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry program will be prepared to provide spiritual guidance and care to members of their church or Christian organization. Graduates will be equipped with the necessary skills to thrive as assistant pastors, pastoral associates, administrative pastors, Bible study leaders, deacons, lay elders, or in various supporting roles related to Christian ministry and service. Students complete the program with foundational understandings and the ability to apply those understandings within the context of Christian ministry. The program teaches how to provide pastoral care that centers on the gospel of Jesus Christ, edifies the Christian community, and serves the needs of those inside and outside of the local church. It was developed for the lay person with a passion for Christ-like service and ministry.
    • Articulate biblical and theological principles for serving in a specific ministry context.
    • Develop a philosophy of ministry for bi-vocational and/or lay ministry as it relates to a specific role within the overall mission of the church.
    • Apply the necessary skills to provide effective pastoral guidance in the midst of crisis, conflict, and change.
    • Articulate biblically responsible ministry strategies that will engage and influence the culture.
