The best psychology major for you will depend on your specific interests and career aspirations. We offer degrees with specific emphases that may best suit your interests, such as forensic psychology or performance and sports psychology.

Many psychology-focused bachelor’s degree programs are offered through an online format. This allows convenience and flexibility for busy adult learners while also providing them with a quality education.

A bachelor’s in psychology may be the first step for many before transitioning into master’s-level studies. After obtaining a graduate degree, you may be eligible for many positions practicing in a diverse number of settings. An undergraduate counseling degree may also be the basis for many before pursuing advanced studies. However, this may be more directly applicable to those looking to pursue a career as a licensed counselor, whilst a psychology degree may be more versatile.

If your calling is to help others by implementing your understanding of human behavior in your work, a bachelor’s in psychology can be a great steppingstone to that path. Many may choose to go on to more advanced studies in psychology, counseling or social work to qualify for higher-level positions, while others may use their undergraduate degree in many other fields, such as criminal justice, medicine or law. These undergraduate degrees can equip you with a solid foundation of human behavior, which may prove useful no matter what career path you choose.

Career Paths for Psychology Majors

Gaining an education in psychology can be useful for a variety of career paths. While some may choose to pursue a graduate-level psychology degree, those with an undergraduate degree may pursue roles such as social and community service managers, along with similar occupations. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, social community service managers had a median annual wage of $77,030 as of May 2023.1

1 The earnings referenced were reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (“BLS”), Social and Community Service Managers, as of May 2023, retrieved May 10, 2024. Due to COVID-19, data from 2020 to 2023 may be atypical compared to prior years. BLS calculates the median using salaries of workers nationwide with varying levels of education and experience. It does not reflect the earnings of GCU graduates as social and community service managers, nor does it reflect earnings of workers in one city or region of the country or a typical entry-level salary. Median income is the statistical midpoint for the range of salaries in a specific occupation. It represents what you would earn if you were paid more money than half the workers in an occupation, and less than half the workers in an occupation. It may give you a basis to estimate what you might earn at some point if you enter this career. Grand Canyon University can make no guarantees on individual graduates’ salaries. Your employability will be determined by numerous factors over which GCU has no control, such as the employer the graduate chooses to apply to, the graduate’s experience level, individual characteristics, skills, etc., against a pool of candidates.
