The Colangelo Scholars
The Colangelo Scholars is an honors business society that exists to provide students with the tools to succeed in the business world during college and post-graduation. In doing so, we strive to create meaningful events that enable individuals to work on their professional skills, such as networking, and expose them to real-world situations. We provide exclusive opportunities to ensure that our students are prepared to find internships and jobs that they love.
This January, Colangelo Scholars in partnership with Career Services hosted a networking event that was held at Canyon 49 Grill. At this event, there were multiple companies represented, such as Banner Health, Sonoran Plumbing Company, Vanguard, ON Semiconductor, Vivint and Modern Woodman Financial.
During the event, students were able to network with professionals from these companies and engage in meaningful discussion. Students were encouraged to bring their resumes to the event since many of the companies represented were looking to hire interns and full-time employees. Interacting with multiple companies also taught the attendees the importance of company culture and values.
Not only did our students seem to find the event very beneficial and eye-opening, our employers who attended did as well. Sonoran Plumbing Company expressed their delight, saying, “It was a wonderful experience and opportunity that we can tell has endless potential moving forward for both Grand Canyon University and the business community. It was inspiring to see such positive and passionate young adults striving to embark on their journey and knowing what a difference they can make in today’s workforce.”
Students and employers alike stayed engaged the whole night. A few students have gotten internship offers and interviews as a result of the event. As club president, I put a lot of time and effort into the event and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. The overall goal was to provide our students with an exclusive networking event, as many are still improving their networking techniques. I think it’s a very vital skillset to have, especially in the business world.
Overall, I’d highly encourage students to attend and participate in Colangelo Scholars. Our society is all about giving students the ability to put themselves out into the real-world and gain new perspectives, opportunities and connections.
